hip dysplasia in dog hip troubles

ifferent types of dogs have different temperaments and some are more suitable as companion dogs than others. All dogs will actually benefit from some level of social contact. They are pack animals and will observe and to some extent want to join in with what is going on around them.
Even so, some dogs are more suited as companion dogs, the Basset Hound, Poodle, Cocker Spaniel, Collie, Labrador and Maltese being among these breeds. There are various reasons why some breeds aren't so recommended as companion dogs.
Health problems faced by companion dogs
The German Hunting Terrier for instance is happy to work all day and is a perfect companion for game-keepers and hunters but not, because of its independent nature, such a good companion dog within a family. The Coarse-haired Hound has a lively and playful temperament and would be better suited as a watchdog than companion dog. Whereas the Iceland Sheepdog makes a good watchdog but also, because of its naturally affectionate nature, can be a devoted companion. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is naturally loving and friendly and makes a very popular companion dog.

Health Problems in Companion Dogs ~
Because there is a large list of suitable breeds as companion dogs, each breed will have their own needs with regard to health, diet and exercise and therefore health problems which may be specific to one companion breed, might not be so prevailing in others.

It is always wise to have your veterinary give your dog a general health check immediately after buying him. Even so, even the healthiest of dogs can become ill and some breeds have health problems which tend to crop up more often than others.

As an example, let's take a look at a few large breed dogs and possible health problems relating to them:
Afghan-hound - Generally healthy with a long life of 12 to 15 years expected but can be sensitive to flea powders and prone to heart disease.
Collies - may suffer from hip troubles, arthritis and eye defects

Dalmations - common health problems in dalmations include allergies, kidney stones, bladder infections and deafness.
Doberman-pinschers - prone to heart disorders, blindness, deafness and Wilebrand's Disease.
German Shepherd - can be susceptible to blood disorders, elbow and hip dysplasia, skin problems and epilepsy
Golden Retriever - hip dysplasia is another condition associated with this breed of dog, as well as Wilebrands Disease, eye defects and skin problems
